It's REALLY happening!

Carole Bailey and Justine Sowers (of SFCS) met with each of us to finalize the selection and placement of furniture in our new offices. Yesterday we finalized fabric and furniture styles for the Main level. It's starting to look like this may really occur! Everyone and everything has to be moved off Main before students return the end of August.

W&L Yearbooks

The Calyx yearbooks have moved. They are now located across from the entrance to Special Collections. They will be accessible to the public, but they still have a check-out period of 2 hours.

Reference Collection

The reference collection will be moving to its new home starting today. We are almost done with "A". Items that we need to have regular access to will be housed near the current periodicals on level 1. The beginning of the reference collection will be in the hallway outside of special collections. The rest of the collection will end up on various floors. We will create a spreadsheet or webpage that lists titles and new locations.

What a week!

Lots of progress. Yolanda Merrill, who is on sabbatical this summer, has moved to room 425. Kyle Felker, who isn't on sabbatical, has moved to room 103. Their former offices will now be used for temporary storage as we all prepare to move to Lower Level 1 later this month/early August.

But the most exciting news is that some of the drywall has been delivered for the walls in the new Technical Services area on Lower Level 1. Great progress, especially for a short week!

Microfilm/fiche & Music Cds

The microfilm and microfiche collection has moved to its temporary home on level 1. The music CDs have also been located to the 1st floor.

Microfilm can not be checked out while the music CDs have a loan period of one week.

The microfilm machines are still located on the Main level of the library (as of 07/08/08), but will be moved to the first floor in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more details.

Books on Tape & CD

The books on tape and CD will be moved to the first floor near the lab in 101. This move should be finished by 07/09/08.

Maps & Atlases

The maps and atlases have been moved to level 1. They are along the wall that has the door leading into the stacks. The dictionary stand, that was outside of the Reference office, has also been relocated to this area.

In a few weeks, we plan to move the McNaughton collection and the new book shelf to this general area.

We have almost finished moving the bulk of the general reference collection. Items from this collection will be stored on floors 1 and 2. John T. will be creating a webpage and/or spreadsheet to help us locate these items.

Reference Collection

We have moved the Reference collection off of the Main level. It is now in 3 places. (1) The hallway outside of Special Collections, (2) near the bound periodicals, and (3) on the second floor near the government document collection and the National Union Catalog (NUC).

Attached is a map of the first floor and John T. will be adding location information to WebBridge.

First tour of new Technical Services space

Today we were allowed behind the curtain to see the brand new area that will soon be "home" to our Technical Services folks. As you can see from the smiles they were pleased with how spacious every thing is! Technical Services is scheduled to move into their new area on Lower Level 1 in mid-August.

New Electricity

A big step in the overall renovation is the addition of power, both on the Main level and on lower level 1. Northen auditorium and the Boatwright Reading Room and several other locales are being converted to office space so they need enhanced power, data access, and phone lines. All these have to be in place before anyone can move from Main to LL1. The work started on wiring in Northen this week! More progress!
