In prof. Pinto-Bailey's absence, I taught this class of 12 students. They are preparing to write a 3-5 pp research paper on a yet to be determined topic of their choice.
I made a presentation to Greg Holyk's POL 100 class, which has about 20 students. The students' work includes a five-page research paper on a "current issue in American politics."
Here is the research guide.
I made a presentation to Greg Holyk's POL 214 class, which has 26 students. Each student is beginning work on a ten-page research paper on a "current issue in U.S. foreign policy."
Here is the research guide.
Rebecca Harris' students in her POL 100 class have begun work on an assignment which requires them to find an article on a relevant topic (such as voting in the U.S.) within certain scholarly journals, and then to identify one of that article's citations which refers to a second article from that select group of journals.
I did not meet with that class, but Rebecca and I put together a research guide for helping her students with the assignment. And you may be asked about it at the Reference Desk!
There actually is more than one way to accomplish the assignment's goals.
The baseball playoffs are on.
Professor Cline is assigning his students a group project where they must develop a hypothesis, find or collect the data and test the hypothesis. The results will then be documented in a paper. Suggested sources are at: http://library.wlu.edu/guides/business/intr202.asp
There are 22 students in the class.
Visiting Professor Caesar Andrews is teaching a class (8 students) in which students are to thoroughly research the background of one of the most important works of journalism in the 20th century and then develop a plan for reporting on that story with modern journalistic techniques. They are to do the same thing with a major historical event in the century.
Here is the research guide.
Professor Anderson is teaching two sections of Econ 203 and there are 32 students. Students will work in groups to develop a research question, prepare a literature review, collect data and analyze the data through a statistical model that they develop. Students are now working on their research questions and will start their literature review soon. Research guide
I made a presentation to Bill Connelly's POL 235 class, which has 26 students enrolled. Their assignments include a series of op-ed pieces and in-class debates on issues relating to the presidency and a 12-to-15-page term paper analyzing the Bush and Obama presidencies.
Here is the course research guide.
This is a new course all seniors need to take in the Fall before starting to write their theses. It introduces them to methodologies, research methods, writing bibliographies, etc. It requires students to work interdisciplinary.
Students will write a lengthy paper for this course.
