Students will write a 5-7pp research paper, including a bibliography, due at the end of the term.
I met with a student in Professor Kiracofe's Politics 105 course (Global Politics) about his research on natural resources, particularly oil, as a source of political power. This actually is fairly difficult to research as a general or theoretical topic, but, fortunately, the student decided to focus on a couple case studies (Russia-Ukraine, etc.).

I am working with a student in Professor's Somani's Journalism 295C class (Media, Race, and Gender) on research into sexism or gender bias in political coverage of U.S. women political candidates, especially Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin in the 2008 campaigns.

Students will write an 8-10 pp paper on topics ranging from fairy tales, legends, folklore, and music. Most will be in the German Romantic period.
A student in the Poverty Seminar is trying to research U.S. television news coverage of poverty in foreign countries. This is a very tough topic, with surprisingly little written on it.

I have been helping a student in the Poverty Studies seminar get started on her research on discrimination (racial, gender, other) in the U.S. criminal justice system, perhaps with an emphasis on sentencing.
