Polling Questions

"I am trying to set up a questionnaire for my Soc 375 course, and I am having trouble finding polls that give me their specific questions. We are doing a project on voting behaviors. Do you happen to have any suggestions?"

The library has a Web page devoted to public opinion polling on the election (formerly part of the Mock Con site).

Several of these sites will give you the texts of questions, but Polling Report.com's site probably is the easiest to use. Select their "Elections -- 2008: President" (or "Election 2008") option.

Obesity and fast food study

Question: I am researching the relationship between fast food restaurant and obesity (both per capita in large US cities). So far, we have difficulty in finding information for specific cities. I was wondering if you had any suggestions of where we could look.

Answer:
If there is some flexibility on the locations and time periods, there are several sources to use. Here are two options that seem like they would work well for the current need.

For obesity statistics, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) Local Health Risk Prevalence Data - City and County Data is a possible source

For the number of fast food restaurants, the economic census is the most authoritative source:
2002 Economic Census: Geographic Area Series (Metro areas, counties and places)
use "Limited-Service Restaurants" or NAICS 722211 in the "Accommodation and Food Services" sector.
