A student in one of the statistics course wishes to have data (longitudinal, if possible) which indicates comparative personal income figures for graduates of "all" colleges and universities.
My immediate reaction was that such data does not exist, or, at least, is not regularly and/or widely gathered. A search of LexisNexis Statistical seems to confirm that opinion.
I did find (via Annie, WorldCat, and EconLit) a couple possibly useful sources:
An article from the Quarterly Journal of Economics.
A 2005 book in our library collection.
A group of Journalism students is working on a project on the "state of the media in France."

A student in the POL 105 class (Global Politics) wants to compare the cultures, histories, and policies of the Dominican Republic and Panama to try to determine why proportionally so many more boys in the DR become professional baseball players.

A student in the Journalism 101 course (News Media and Society) needs to find academic journal articles on the effects of negative political advertising on voter behavior.

Students have a pretty generic paper due, and Irene wanted a class explaining research skills and showing some databases. In particular, she wanted me to explain how to search for grey literature and how to evaluate it. I have a research guide at http://library.wlu.edu/science/env295.asp. The third part is a list of grey literature websites that I thought would be helpful. We used the last half hour (out of 2 hours) for them to work alone, and they really seemed to know their stuff.
Student wants to know the average size of houses in the US. This seemingly simple question gets a little complicated. First, house size can be measured in several ways, most commonly by the number of rooms and in square feet. It may also be better to look at house in a certain classification rather than in total - such as all urban or suburban houses. Also, the mathematical average is not generally used for data like this because it is too easily affected by extremes. The median is more commonly used.
A good source for this data on housing can be found in the American Housing Survey (AHS).

A student in BAdmin 340 - Entrepreneurship was seeking industry ratios for a niche market that had no obvious NAICS or SIC. He did have the names of several companies (all private) that operated in this market. Using the names of the companies on his list, we searched the business directories in Lexis/Nexis Academic (Business - Company Profiles) and found the assigned SIC in the Directory of Corporate Affiliations entry. With this SIC we tracked down usable figures in RMA Annual Statement Studies/Almanac of Business and Industrial Financial Ratios/Industry Norms.
This is a question coming from a group working on the Economics 203 statistics project. The group wants to study how several factors relate to the cost of housing. The data will be used in a regression analysis. Concepts include:
