Subscriptions to Drop, 2008

During this Winter Term, we in the W&L University Library are conducting a title-by-title examination of the serially-published publications (journals, magazine, yearbooks, etc.) to which we subscribe.
The last such review was in 2002. We do not do this as a cost-cutting measure, but to try to make sure that we are subscribing to the most appropriate publications.

Each title is "assigned" to the academic department which originally requested it and/or which is most likely to utilize it.

We would like to drop subscriptions to the 3 publication series listed below which are presently associated with the Politics Department. We seek your counsel on these decisions, so please let me know by Wednesday 26 March if you think there are good reasons to continue these subscriptions.

(1)
Council of State Governments State Directory -- Elective Officials
REF JK2403 .S69
Council of State Governments State Directory -- Legislative Leadership
REF JK2403 .S688
Council of State Governments State Directory -- Administrative Officials
REF JK2403 .S67
Rationale: These 3 annually-published directories are available only in print form and are never used any more, no doubt because the information is available online (and is more up-to-date) in state government Web sites.

(2)
Handbook of Virginia Local Government Law.
Local Government Attorneys of Virginia
REF KFV2830 .H362 2001
Rationale: Our 2001 edition is out-of-date and the 2007 edition ($225) is available only as a CD-ROM. The W&L law library maintains a current subscription.

(3)
Health Affairs
Project Hope.
PERIODICALS
Rationale: This quarterly print subscription is fairly expensive (about $450/year) and the contents are accessible to us through three periodical databases to which we currently subscribe (LexisNexis Academic, etc.).

Thanks for your help.
