Important New Library Databases

The University Library is pleased to announce that we have added a series of new databases to better support the research needs of the Washington and Lee University community. Our new general subject database is Academic Search Complete. In addition to the excellent coverage and full-text articles provided by this database, we have also added an extensive range databases to provide greater coverage of business, technology, education, environmental studies, and more. Links to the new databases are provided below.

* Academic Search Complete
* Business Source Complete
* Computers & Applied Sciences Complete
* Education Research Complete
* Environment Complete
* Hospitality & Tourism Complete
* Humanities International Complete
* Legal Collection
* Newspaper Source Plus
* Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
* Regional Business News
* Religion and Philosophy Collection
* Women's Studies International

Unfortunately, these new resources don’t come without a cost. On July 1, the Washington and Lee University community will lose access to the Academic OneFile and Expanded Academic ASAP. While we regret the loss of these important resources, we are sure you will find the new products will offer you a greater variety of information from a larger range of sources.

BlackwellSynergy Journals Temporarily Unavailable

All Blackwell electronic journal content (all full-text HTML and PDF articles) are being incorporated into the Wiley InterScience Web site. This move will take place between June 27th and 30th. The Library staff will attempt to restore access to these important journals as quickly as possible. Our access should be fully restored on July 1st. This has been brought about by the merger of Blackwell Publishing and John Wiley and Sons to form Wiley-Blackwell.

Summer Hours

Hours of operation for Leyburn Library and Telford Science Library for summer 2008 have been posted on our Web site.

Please remember to expect some dislocations and possible service interruptions in Leyburn Library as our renovation project gets started.

Library Renovation Blog

Work has begun on Leyburn Library's 2008-09 renovation project.

We will be moving collections, staff offices, and other things to new locations, as well as closing off some areas, such as Northen Auditorium, to the public.

Keeping track of these changes is a challenge unto itself. We will try to keep you (and ourselves) up-to-date with our library renovation blog.

Please note that you can submit comments or questions via the "Comments" link at the bottom of each blog entry.
Otherwise, if you have questions, please contact Karin O'Callaghan in Leyburn Library (x8642).

More Historical Newspapers

The Washington and Lee University Library has acquired significant additional coverage for our ongoing subscription to the commercially-published America's Historical Newspapers database.

The latest enhancement, Early American Newspapers, Series 2, gives us coverage of a total of about 1,000 newspapers dating from 1690 to about 1900. Here is a list of some of the notable newspapers included in this new addition.

America's Historical Newspapers is one of the databases available in the library's collection of historical newspaper information.
