War Coverage in Cyberspace

The University of Richmond has participated with several institutions in a grant-funded project to create a browseable and searchable database of the digitized "Civil War issues" (1860-1865) of the Richmond Daily Dispatch newspaper. Complete issues and individual articles are available both as transcribed text and as digitized page images.

Google Search -- Leyburn Library Journalism Resources

We have created a Google-based search engine which searches only the contents of the sites listed on two of Leyburn Library's "Journalism Resources" collection pages.
For example, while helping a student find materials on mass media coverage of the Arab world, I was able to find Society of Professional Journalists guidelines for avoiding inflammatory or racist language in covering the war on terrorism.
