Blackwell Journals

The W&L University Library is planning to take advantage of an offer from Blackwell Publishing to expand our access to their scholarly journals collection from the current 103 titles to 759 titles.

As part of this deal, which would take effect 1 January 2007, we agree to convert our current Blackwell subscriptions from print to online access only.
As with other online journals, all these titles would be available online to W&L students and faculty anywhere in the world through the W&L computing network.

You can see a list of the new online journals and a list of the current subscriptions which are to be converted to online-only by clicking on the Continue reading...link, below.
Please let me know if you have any objection to this change.

Another advantage: All online Blackwell journals are able to provide tables of contents of new issues by e-mail or RSS. This notification, which includes online access to the complete articles, usually is provided well before a printed issue would be available.
If you are interested in setting up this service, you can contact me (Dick Grefe).

The full list of 759 Blackwell journals, sorted by subject, is HERE.
Please note that there are significant additions in such subject areas as business and management, development studies, economics, law, politics, and sociology.

Current Blackwell journals   (These current print subscriptions would become online-only.)
I have highlighted the titles in which I think the Journalism and Mass Communications Department might have the most interest. A bit of guess-work here...

New Statistical E-Books (W&L subscriptions)

In addition to the previously-announced Historical Statistics of the United States, Leyburn Library recently has purchased online access to three statistical compilations in "electronic book" form:

Each of these items is a standard in academic library collections and often useful for student research needs. We are very glad to be able to provide them in online form.
All are accessible from this library Web page.

Academic OneFile

Thomson Gale.
Available online. (W&L subscription)
This is a new article database for the college and university market, providing broad coverage of most academic disciplines, including social sciences, business and economics, arts and humanities, natural and physical sciences, etc. It includes articles from over 9,000 journals, magazines, and newspapers, of which nearly 7,000 are academic journals, and most are available in full-text formats.
This new database probably makes obsolete the same publisher's Expanded Academic ASAP, at least for W&L researchers.
