Robert is the new HDM

This note today over the wire:

After a brutal interview process including hundreds of hours of unpaid overtime on Roberts part we, The Help Desk Brain Trust, have decided that Robert Whitener will be the Student Manager next year. Over the next few months Elham will train Robert for this great responsibility. They will both be involved in interviewing and training the new student workers in the spring.

In speaking for the staff (who I naturally didn't consult) we are all very happy to have Robert at the Helm, although Serena thought we might have done better by choosing Adam.

Elham is Back! . . . maybe

It could be that I am an obsessive worrier, or it could be that my imagination got the better of me when 4 months had past and Elham had not responded to a single email I sent her (apparently they don't have email in North Africa), but I had convinced myself that Elham was not coming back.

There were a number of different scenarios that led, in my imagination, to Elhams failure to return. I will list them in the order I believed they could probably occur.

1. Elham goes to Egypt and, finding that women do not have the freedoms that they have here in the states, she starts a feminist movement (the Egyptian Ladies Health and power Movement (a.k.a. ELHAM)). Shortly after her cadre takes over several government buildings Elham is forced to go into hiding while being sought by the Egyptian government and the Muslim Brotherhood.

2. Elham meets a Saudi Trillionare with a PhD. from Harvard and they spend all their time jetting about the South Pacific in his Lear.

3. Elham falls under the influence of an Eastern Mystic and chooses a life of contemplation in the deserts of North Africa. She eschews all worldly pursuits except the creation (by proxy with the help of Kari) of the worlds largest MP3 collection which she can’t play because of the lack of electricity. Just having the collection makes her feel like she has a connection with her past life.

All of these seemed more likely than Elham simply not returning my email.
