I have news about possibly getting access to the ACM ebook collection, I'll need to meet with you guys to discuss options. Hope your summer is going well.

Followup from our conversation of today:

The list of publishers on our approval plan is located here:

http://library.wlu.edu/services/Acquisitions.asp#approval

If it's not on the list, we don't get anything automatically from that publisher, although we still might be slipped for them. I can already tell you O'Reilly is not on the list, and isn't slipped, either. Take a look at this and tell me about any publishers you might want to add. Keep in mind this is monographs only...journals and databases are a separate process.

I've uploaded and attached the list of comp sci books never checked out. This is limited to items in call number range QA75.5-QA76.95. Mary is doing the weeding project call number by call number range, so what I will do is find out when the cognitive science/mathematics call number ranges are being done, then let you know so you can go through that part of the collection. That will happen sometime this summer.

The list is current up to the present day-you might want to load the spreadsheet and sort it by date. Items recently acquired may not have had time to circulate yet, so we may only want to look at books with acquisition dates of 2001 and before.

A reminder: the list is no substitute for actually looking at the items on the shelf-you need to see them in context with what's not being marked for removal. I'll let you know when the marking of the CompSci stuff is complete.

List of Books never checked out

As it turns out, we have a student worker to mark the books, so I'm not going to be doing any of that directly. You needn't worry about the impact of this on my workload.

As far as subscriptions, I'm attaching the list I brought with me today-this is stuff that's either a current suscription or recently cancelled, and is marked as being charged to computer science. There is probably plenty of stuff that you use in your research that isn't on this list-that means it's covered under some other departments account. This may or may not be useful, but it's as close as I can get to a listing of "Computer Science Journals."

Comp Sci Journals

As far as electronic products, a listing can be found here:

http://library.wlu.edu/subjectresults.asp?descname=Computer%20Science

I need to do some homework on ACM and the ebook collections-more on that when I have more info.

From what I'm hearing, you guys are pretty comfortable with blogging and RSS, so I'm not going to go into what a blog is or how you can subscribe to the RSS feed (yup, there is one). It's there if you want to take advantage of it.

Right now, you are all on a notification list and will receive an email "tickler" every time I update the blog. If you like, I can take you off this list, just leave a comment or send me an email. Don't worry, I'm not planning on making new posts every day, or even every week-just when there's something noteworthy to say.
