I am interested to see what Fugui gambles his life away on. In the movie The Deer Hunter, the Vietnamese are infatuated with gambling. They bet on a game called Russian roulette, in which a six-shot pistol is filled with one bullet and each person at the table puts the gun to their head and pulls the trigger until somone gets the chamber with the bullet and dies. In other movies, I've seen similar 'high stakes' gambling in East Asian society, always in a black market, underground atmosphere. The horror of this desperate gamble both depresses and interests me. How did the stakes get so high?
